The Basic Quadrant of X-ray Positioning -brings back my early internship training since 1991-1992. I discovered it by appying its theory from my academic years. The first Basic X-ray Positioning is called: Anteroposterior projection or simple AP as I recall it, said x-ray beam strikes anterior aspect of the patient. The second one is known as Posteroanterior or basically PA thats opposite from the first position I mentioned meaning x-ray beam strikes posterior aspect first. The third and fourth Basic X-ray Positioining is known as Lateral and Oblique projection which I recall is always named according to the side of the patient closer to the film. Now by inserting my own version of Theory of Basic Quadrant Positioning. I noticed there are two major elements that attached to the Basic Quadrant positioning the first is "INFERO-PROXIMAL" and the last one is "SUPERO-DISTAL" How this theory support on the basic quadrant positioning: For AP and PA Projection USING A SIMPLE CHEST RADIOGRAPH zooming on the collar bone. The collar bone simple above the apex of the lungs when the patient is in lying position satisfying the theory of SUPERO-DISTAL because the lung is farhter away from the film. While on the opposite part which is PA PROJECTION. The patients chest simply resting nearest to the film demonstrating the collar bone inferior to the apex of the lungs when viewed by radiologist satisfying the theory of INFERO-PROXIMAL in addition to this part of the body nearest to the film is superimposed by other organs nearest to the tube. Lateral and Oblique projection by its definition can be called according to the side closest or nearest to the film. Again by using a simple (R) lateral chest projection. The same idea apply to this procedure of chest study particularly in detecting (L) ventricle enlargement. When radiologist wishes to study oblique comparison of both the right and left part of the lungs especially the longitudinal part. The aspect of SUPERO-DISTAL method is its greatest significant.Two major elements under the basic quadrant of positioning revealed its points and usaged.
