RadPartners Strikes Again and Conquers Southwest Diagnostic Imaging

Perhaps the largest physician-led radiology group, Radiology Partners is only getting bigger with its recent acquisition of Arizona-based Southwest Diagnostic Imaging (SDI). The move signifies a 25 percent staff increase for RadPartners, as SDI already has a substantial presence in the Phoenix area with 120 radiologists practicing in 18 hospitals and 25 outpatient clinics.

In 2004, Scottsdale Medical Imaging and Valley Radiologists merged to form SDI, and in 2014, they welcomed East Valley Diagnostic Imaging. They operate in conjunction with Banner Health and HonorHealth, the two largest healthcare systems in Maricopa County. “By joining with Radiology Partners, we’ll have access to additional capabilities and leadership development programs that will support our growth and allow us to help shape the field of radiology nationally for the benefit of the next generation of radiologists,” said Dr. Chris Dewald, Co-Executive Vice President of SDI in a press release.

With already 350 practices in nine states, the acquisition is a part of RadPartner’s current mission to expand services throughout the country. Back in July, they announced plans to open up 70 new sites in Ohio, Texas, and Iowa.

“We are proud and excited that SDI has chosen to join our practice,” said Chairman and CEO of Radiology Partners, Rich Whitney. “They have a long history of providing outstanding inpatient and outpatient imaging services to communities throughout the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Not only is SDI a leading radiology practice in Arizona, they have also established themselves as a leader and an important benchmark for radiology practices nationally. SDI’s emphasis on clinical innovation, dedication to patient care, and their vision for the future of the field aligns closely with our own. The injection of their ideas and talent into Radiology Partners will advance our mission to transform radiology.”
