This patient had blunt trauma to the eye. His ocular ultrasound shows echogenic vitreous due to haemorrhage and the lens floating in the vitreous cavity.
Subluxation or dislocation of the lens is also known as ectopia lentis. The commonest cause is trauma. Other causes include hereditary ectopia lentis; primary ocular disorders such as aniridia and intraocular tumours; and systemic disorders such as Marfan’s syndrome, homocystinuria and Weil-Marchesani syndrome.
